team
Robert Ferguson
Robert has worked in special interest travel since graduating
university with an archaeology degree. He has been a Mountain
Guide in the Himalayas and Karakorum mountain ranges,
leading a wide selection of holidays including walking,
biking, rafting and cultural trips. He has also run trips
and safaris in a number of African countries, including
Ethiopia and Lesotho.
Robert has detailed knowledge of running successful tour
operations in both the UK and overseas. His experience
includes a three-year period as Operations Manager of
Exodus, one of the largest of the UK's adventure tour
operators, where he was in charge of its walking and Discovery
programmes, as well as Area Manager for Africa.
As well as Ethiopia and Lesotho, Robert has travelled
extensively in Kenya, South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland.
His favourite hideaway is Victoria Bay on the Garden Route,
watching the whales swim past while enjoying breakfast-in-bed.
Ruth Hardy
Ruth left university with a degree in Law (with European
Studies and French), and then took a Masters in Tourism
Management. Her work in travel commenced with Hyatt Hotels
and later included a two year management training course
with Saga Holidays.
Ruth joined realworld-travel.com in June 2000 from Simply
Travel, where she was Programme Manager, in charge of
sales, reservations and operations for their Cities and
Short Breaks programme. With her extensive and varied
tourism background, and her fluency in French and Spanish,
Ruth works with our partners to ensure realworld-travel.com
offers a wide range of quality itineraries at a keen price.
She has travelled throughout the world, including visits
to South Africa where you can usually find her somewhere
on the waterfront in Cape Town, working of course.
Paul Fry
Paul has worked for Real Africa for 3 years, and has worked
in travel for a total of 16 year. During this time he
has travelled extensively within southern Africa, visiting
Cape Town, The Garden Route, and Mpumalanga in South Africa.
In Zimbabwe he has visited Harare, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo
and Lake Kariba. (which is his favourite destination!)
Within Botswana he stayed at the Okavango Delta, and at
the Selinda Private Reserve, where he undertook a two
day walking safari. In the last 18 months Paul has visited
many of the lodges and hotels we use in Kenya and in May
2003 spent 2 weeks checking out the hospitality of our
favourite South African properties. They all passed with
flying colours.
Vienda Duke
Born and brought up in Zimbabwe and South Africa, Vee
has been working in travel for 14 years, much of that
time spent tailor-making holidays to East and Southern
Africa. Before working for Realworld, she worked for a
Tour Operator in South Africa and was back there in February
2003 seeing friends and visiting properties and lodges.
She has travelled extensively throughout the region. Her
favourite place: Victoria Falls.
